BuildingBoat Lantern Deck — lit scene kits

The two sets we build with a light inside. Both are desk-sized, both come in a printed gift box, and both glow without a visible wire.

An LED changes what a finished build is for. A flower house assembled from clear and transparent-green parts is a pleasant model in daylight and a lantern after dark, which is why we put the light under the floor instead of behind the back wall. The greenhouse opens: the roof lifts off, the skylight tilts, the windows and doors swing, so the interior can be rearranged after the build is finished.

The nutcracker went the other way. Its light lives inside the Christmas tree — hold the tree, twist it, and the scene warms up — and the rest of the model is detailing: nutcrackers, a wreath, a cane, a tree skirt. At 8.8 inches tall it is a mantelpiece piece rather than a shelf piece.

Neither set needs a display case. They are solid builds in ABS, the colour is in the plastic, and dust wipes off a closed roof with a dry brush.

Questions about the Lantern Deck

Do the LEDs need batteries?

Yes — coin cells, included, and both lights have a switch. The flower house switches at the base plate, the nutcracker switches by twisting the tree.

Are these sets compatible with LEGO bricks?

They are. Studs, tubes and plate heights match, so parts and minifigures move between these sets and the LEGO sets on the same shelf.
