BuildingBoat

Wheelhouse — Who builds BuildingBoat

The yard

BuildingBoat is a small design yard in Duluth, Minnesota. We draw brick-built display stands for finished LEGO models and a short line of lit scene kits, we prototype them in plastic on the bench, and we have the production bricks moulded in ABS to our own specification.

Seven models are on the shelf at the moment. That is deliberate: every stand we sell is cut for a named set and has to be tested against that set, which puts a hard limit on how fast the range can grow.

How we decide what to build next

By request, mostly. A builder writes in with a set number and a photograph of the problem — a hull with nowhere to sit, a shelf too shallow for a wingspan — and if enough people own that set, it goes on the bench. The three brackets on the Mast Mounts shelf all started as letters.

What we do not do

We do not make clear acrylic cases, we do not sell bricks by the bag, and we are not connected to the LEGO Group in any way. Everything here is designed to work alongside their sets, not to replace them.
