Building with ABS bricks: what to check before you start

Our sets build like any brick set, with a few habits worth having before the first bag is opened.

Open one bag at a time

Bags are numbered in build order. Tipping the whole box into a tray is how a two-hour build becomes a four-hour sort, and small transparent parts — the ones the lit sets are full of — are the hardest to find in a pile.

Clutch power settles after the first click

A new ABS brick grips tightly, then relaxes slightly once it has been seated and lifted. Press plates down from above with a flat palm rather than rocking them, and use the brick separator from your own collection for anything stubborn; prying with a fingernail marks the stud.

Count the spares, keep the booklet

Small parts travel with a spare or two in the last bag. Keep the printed booklet with the build — the part lists at the back are what you will need if a section has to come apart later.

If a brick is missing

It happens, and it is fixable without taking the model apart. Write to the yard with the set name and the step number from the booklet. Our address is on the Signal Flags page, and anything bought through the partner store is also covered by that store's own help desk.

Sets packed exactly this way

Everything in the yard is on the Mast Mounts, Lantern Deck and Slipway shelves.
